My paintings are visual metaphors for emotions and thoughts – each is a philosophical contemplation.

I experiment with an idea enjoying the element of discovery this offers me. I emphasise and distort selected aspects using collage, translucent washes, impasto and raised textural effects.

I am interested in human metaphysical archetypes, concepts of reality and moods, sometimes with a touch of irony, pathos and humour. Issues, emotions and thoughts are explored through visual metaphor. My representational painting also explores feelings, abstract shapes, colours and textures.

A former special needs, art, English teacher and university tutor, I have done research with children and students of all ages. I worked with teachers and Creatives as a research mentor for Creative Partnerships in Manchester Salford. My paintings (‘Thoughts’ series based on emotions about learning) are in my PhD thesis with Manchester Metropolitan University (2010).

A range of fine art prints are for sale and to order. Traditional commissions undertaken
